Thank you this very interesting article. While I was vaguely aware of some aspects of these debates, this very detailed examination provides a much deeper understanding.

This growing trend of "magical," conspiratorial, nationalistic and even racist thinking is spreading all around the world.

We see the absolute insanity in India, with right-wing Hindu nationalist (Hindutva) rewriting of all history. They assert that homo sapiens originated not in Africa but India, that India is the font of all worod civilization, etc., etc.

We are naturally aware of this in Western chauvinist and racist denials of all non-Western civilizations and advanced. And we see Black nationalist rewriting of history with the invention of Black Aphrodite and Cleopatra.

The same is happening in Türkiye, and every medium and major "civilizational" power.

This kind of irrational reactionary nationalist insanity and conspiracy thinking is also invading the left, as we see with an explosion of antisemitic conspiracy theories about Jews and Israel controlling the West, etc. As if little Israel controlled mighty imperialism!

This kind of mass hysteria characterized the worldwide crisis of capitalism, the Great Depression, and the rise of fascism in the 1920s-1930s, as the major imperialist powers prepared for another world war. Fascism in particular feeds off of and very intentionally promotes "madness" as a political method. Nationalist madness is the only way for fascist movements to mobilize, and to surmount the impossible contradiction of serving Big Capital while pretending to care about "the little man."

In the absence of any clear leadership or collective ways to fight ever worsening economic and social conditions that are devastating hundreds of millions, the growing psychological tensions breed pathological "insanity." In particular the frustrated petit-bourgeoisie becomes enraged and inebriated.

We should step back and look at such phenomena as yet more confirmation of a historic crisis of stagnation of capitalism and the undeniable rise of incipient and open fascist forces in the context of the inexorable march towards another inter-imperialist world war.

History manifests itself in myriad forms. We see the sharpening economic competition arising from the crisis of capitalism, the intensifying trade wars and tariffs, the sharpening nationalist chest thumping by right-wing politicians and pundits all around the world. We also see that in the massive military preparations and build-ups in preparation for the coming wars...

But we also see this crisis manifest itself in myriad psychological states of reactionary political madness, that diffracts all these tensions in "strange" debates and sudden trends.

As an outside observer I can't help but view these debates and trends in China, and other social and political trends (Hanfu, etc.) in this light of growing reactionary bourgeois nationalism, conspiracy theories, and attraction to rightist or even fascist kinds of thinking.

Thanks again for this interesting article.
