Wang Yi Meets with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha
On the evening of February 15, 2025 (local time), Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha during the Munich Security Conference.
Wang Yi stated that the China-Ukraine friendship has a traditional foundation, and the two countries established a strategic partnership in 2011, maintaining the normal development of bilateral relations. In recent years, China has been Ukraine's largest trading partner. This is particularly valuable given the current situation and demonstrates the potential and scope for cooperation between both sides. China views Ukraine as a friend and partner and has always approached and promoted China-Ukraine relations from a long-term perspective. China is willing to work with Ukraine to overcome unfavorable factors, advance bilateral relations, and conduct practical cooperation. China hopes Ukraine will continue to ensure the safety of Chinese institutions and personnel in Ukraine.
Regarding the Ukraine crisis, Wang Yi stated that China has always worked for peace and promoted dialogue. Facts and developments have again proven that President Xi Jinping's principles of "four shoulds" and "three points of thinking" are objective, fair, rational, and practical. China will continue to follow these principles and play a constructive role in the political resolution of the crisis and the realization of peace. China supports all efforts toward peace and hopes to achieve a fair, lasting, binding peace agreement acceptable to all parties. The "Friends for Peace" group, initiated by China and Global South countries, will continue to build consensus for promoting peace and dialogue.
Sybiha stated that Ukraine and China have maintained contact and communication, and the people of both countries are friendly toward each other. Ukraine-China cooperation is mutually beneficial and beneficial to both people. Ukraine strictly adheres to the One China principle and is willing to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with China, further enhance the strategic partnership between the two countries, and will continue to make every effort to protect Chinese institutions and citizens. Ukraine highly values China's influence as a major power, appreciates China's objective and balanced position, and looks forward to China playing an important role in achieving comprehensive, just, and sustainable peace.
Wang Yi Meets with Austrian Interim Chancellor and Foreign Minister Schallenberg
On the evening of February 15, 2025 (local time), Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Austrian Interim Chancellor and Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg during the Munich Security Conference.
Wang Yi stated that the world currently faces overlapping security challenges and economic risks, with intertwined factors of instability and uncertainty. The international community is worried about division and confrontation while yearning for peace and stability. The Munich Security Conference's focus on multipolarity is timely. China remains true to its original aspirations, follows the trend of peaceful development, and continues to be a positive force in a changing world. Austria, as a permanently neutral country, has long played the role of "bridge-builder" and mediator in international affairs. We are willing to work with Austria to jointly voice support for multilateralism, maintain UN authority, defend international rule of law, and resist unilateral bullying. We welcome Austria to seize new opportunities brought by China's new development, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, and maintain Austria-China relations at the forefront of China-Europe relations. This year marks the 50th anniversary of China-EU relations. We are willing to work with European countries, including Austria, to inject new vitality into China-EU relations and move towards a better next 50 years of development.
Schallenberg stated that Austria and China respect each other and have conducted close cooperation on bilateral and multilateral issues. Austria values its relationship with China and wishes to strengthen dialogue and cooperation. "Decoupling and breaking chains" does not serve common interests; only open cooperation can achieve development and prosperity. Austria appreciates China's adherence to multilateralism and is willing to work with China to uphold the UN Charter's purposes and principles and defend the post-World War II international order. Austria highly values China's influence as a major power and looks forward to China using Eastern wisdom to play an important role in promoting peace.
The two sides also exchanged views on the situation in the Middle East and other issues.
Wang Yi Meets with Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský
On February 15, 2025 (local time), Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský during the Munich Security Conference.
Wang Yi stated that the Czech Republic was one of the first countries to establish diplomatic relations with New China, and the people of both countries harbor friendly feelings toward each other. However, in recent years, bilateral relations have declined, which China is unwilling to see. China pursues an independent foreign policy of peace and wishes to develop relations based on mutual respect and mutually beneficial cooperation with all countries. There are no fundamental conflicts of interest or geopolitical contradictions between China and the Czech Republic. Improving China-Czech relations aligns with the common wishes of both peoples and serves their fundamental national interests. China hopes the Czech side will seriously reflect, establish correct perceptions of China, and take concrete actions to rebuild mutual trust with China. The key is to respect China's core interests, especially adhering to the One China principle, maintain the political foundation of China-Czech relations, and help bilateral relations return to a healthy and stable track as soon as possible. On this basis, China is willing to strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation with the Czech Republic in various fields.
Lipavský noted that last year marked the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Czech Republic and China. During President Xi Jinping's visit to the Czech Republic in 2016, both sides established a strategic partnership, which set the direction for mutually beneficial cooperation. At a time when trade wars could easily break out, maintaining dialogue and cooperation between Czech-China and EU-China is very important. The Czech government adheres to the One China policy, does not support "Taiwan independence," and is willing to work with China to develop good political relations and achieve more results in bilateral cooperation.
The two sides also exchanged views on China-EU relations, the Ukraine crisis, and other issues.
Wang Yi Meets with Brazilian President's Chief Advisor Amorim
On February 15, 2025 (local time), Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Brazilian President's Chief Advisor Celso Amorim during the Munich Security Conference.
Wang Yi said that last year, President Xi Jinping's historic visit to Brazil and his important consensus with President Lula on building a China-Brazil community with a shared future demonstrated the contemporary significance and strategic value of China-Brazil relations. The alignment of the Belt and Road Initiative with Brazil's development strategy has injected strong momentum into China-Brazil cooperation. As major world powers and representative forces of the Global South, China and Brazil have maintained strategic focus amid the complex international situation and worked together to make positive contributions to promoting world peace, stability, and development. China is willing to work with Brazil to implement the consensus reached by the two heads of state, promote more achievements in bilateral cooperation across various fields, practice true multilateralism, maintain the UN's central role, and defend the legitimate rights and interests of Global South countries.
Amorim stated that President Xi Jinping's state visit to Brazil last year was of great significance, demonstrating the vision of both countries' leaders, consolidating the deep friendship between Brazil and China, and promoting more practical cooperation achievements across various fields. Brazil is willing to work with China to accelerate the implementation of the consensus reached by the two heads of state, build a more equitable and sustainable China-Brazil community with a shared future, and jointly defend international fairness and justice.
Both sides were committed to strengthening communication and coordination and deepening the cooperation of the BRICS and China-Latin America.
Both sides fully affirmed the work of the "Friends of Peace" group and will continue to play a constructive role in promoting a political solution to the Ukraine crisis.
