Is there a vicious cycle at work in rural areas of China (and elsewhere in the world). If the government doesn’t invest in rural infrastructure, then people will leave. So the counsel not to invest in rural infrastructure becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. OK, no government gets it 100% right. Perhaps there are some areas where people will leave no matter how good the rural infrastructure is. Perfection in infrastructure spending just isn’t realistic.
Very interesting. I would just say that with regard to Japan’s “revolving-door prime ministers”, these politicians are not in charge. Japan is a colonised vassal state over which the US-centred oligarchs call the shots—similar to the US and Europe. The only time this came close to being slightly attenuated, in 2009-10, the US deep state soon put a stop to it.
